Here is a simple solution to the gay marriage/birth certificate dilemma.

First, I agree that any two people who want a lifetime partnership should have the right to equal social security benefits, pensions, joint tax returns, etc. However, two wives, or two fathers, in any union, is considered polygamy.

Solution: All benefits should be equal to married couples. Birth certificates would list the biological mother, and she could then give the baby up for adoption to the partner. The child would have the legal, and true status of his/her birth. With two males, the same scenario could take place.

Change the semantics, and make it all legal and correct.
