The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, my son, Joe, and I were fishing out of Venice when we ended up stranded in a silted up canal. We used our motor for as long as we could to get out of the mud but it finally gave up the ghost. Not wanting to spend the night in the marsh in 40-degree weather I called the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office to see if they could assist me. The young lady who answered was very understanding and said she would get in touch with their marine division. Within an hour or so, three deputies floated up and took us in tow and rescued us from what would have been an unpleasant experience.

I want to commend the deputies who assisted in getting us back to the landing and my boat on its trailer. On Thanksgiving Day, my son and I gave thanks in our blessing for our three rescuers. Thank you.
