Our Views: Alleged fiscal hawks in Louisiana House barely peck at edges of budget mess

What a lovely metaphor in your Feb. 1 editorial. “Fiscal hawks” have indeed turned into “fiscal sparrows,” pecking away ineffectually for two years now at the edges of Louisiana’s budget problems. Sparrows live on bird seeds, but that modest diet won’t sustain our institutions of higher education or a robust health care system. They’ll wither and die without more sustenance.

What’s the sound of a fiscal sparrow’s bird call: “cheap-cheap-cheap”?
