I hope my U.S. senators, John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy, along with my U.S. representative, Cedric Richmond, are listening to what I have to say. Gun violence is out of control.

I’m a constituent from New Orleans contacting them regarding the mass shooting in Las Vegas. I demand that my senators not just condemn this act of terror, but support responsible policies that help prevent these acts of gun violence in the future.

I urge my senators to consider legislation that would close the loophole that lets people buy guns at shows and through private sellers without background checks, as well as institute universal background checks for ammo and gun buyers, a measure 80 percent of gun owners support. The manufacture, sale and purchase of the "bump stock" device should also be immediately outlawed with serious consequences to those who do not abide by the ban.

Furthermore, I would like my senators to support removing the Dickey Rider from the federal budget to allow the CDC to research gun violence prevention. It is absurd that it is illegal to even look into gun violence prevention and indicative of how truly diseased our current system is in regard to gun control.

Now is the time to talk about protections from mass shootings, and I expect my senators to act to protect me and their constituents.
