I have been a proponent of a flat tax for a long time. Studying the proposed tax plan by the Republicans, I wonder why corporations are given the benefit of a flat 20 percent tax on net profits, but they don't seem to think it is the right plan for ordinary citizens.

I propose a flat 20 percent tax for personal income tax with a standard deduction for each taxpayer equivalent to the poverty level. This would certainly simplify the tax code and I ask: What is unfair about everyone paying the same percentage of their earnings? If it is good enough for business, it should be good enough for the ordinary working person.
