Patti Garner's recent letter is the same old tired rant from the left because their sainted Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election to an outspoken showman who says and tweets what he thinks. This is what liberals do when they can't make a reasoned argument for their side; they resort to name-calling, smearing and fearmongering. According to Garner, and some liberals, anyone who voted for Donald Trump is at least partly responsible for the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, that killed one woman. Trump voters are racist, misogynistic, hate anyone different from them, are anti fill-in-the-blank, and on and on, ad nauseam. Using Garner's twisted logic of guilt by association, I will boldly say that anyone who voted for "her highness" is also partly responsible for the shootings of Republican Steve Scalise and his Capitol Hill police detail, and also the beat down of innocent people at Berkeley in late August by violent Antifa thugs. Some liberals seem to think using these violent tactics to shut up and silence anyone with a different point of view is OK. Yes, votes and elections do have real consequences.

If Clinton hadn't played identity politics, if she hadn't ignored white hard working, middle-class Americans, if she hadn't taken Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania for granted, if she hadn't so arrogantly thought that she would ascend to the presidency without having to run a real campaign, she would have won. She famously called Trump supporters a basket of deplorables. "If, if, if," Dandy Don Meredith used to say, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a merry Christmas?" The left just needs to accept that Trump is the legally elected president, whether they like it or not. That's what they were insisting Republicans and conservatives should, must, do before the election because they were so sure of victory.

Or, they could all go take a long walk in the woods with Clinton, or maybe they could sit around in their yoga pants, drinking chardonnay and commiserating with her about what went so wrong for Democrats in 2016 (not hard to figure that out). But I won't hold my breath, waiting for the left to come to its senses. It will continue to attack and smear anyone who doesn't march in lockstep with its ideology.
