Progressives occasionally reveal painful truths. These are occasionally overt (Jonathan Gruber re: “Obamacare”) but more often euphemistic as in E.J. Dionne’s column (“Which party loves the USA?”). Dionne rightly credits Bernie Sanders “for speaking a truth that progressives will need to face up to: that the programs liberals support ... require more broadly based tax increases.”
Translation: If we want to maintain our current welfare/entitlement state (much less double it as Sanders proposes), we really ARE going to have to tax the middle class as the revered European/Scandinavian countries do through value-added taxes. These countries actually tax their evil rich at a lower ratio of percentage of income taxes paid to income earned than the U.S. does.
Dionne castigates the Democratic National Committee for having so few debates and for scheduling them at absurd time slots (weekends and opposite football playoff and bowl games). Why? Because it doesn’t want undecided voters to see and hear Hillary Clinton for very long in unedited situations. Never mind the history, policies and subterfuge: Vote for Clinton; she’s a woman, and it’s her turn!
