The claim by the Jazz Fest organizers that rising costs force them to raise the ticket prices is specious. Of course costs are going to rise when they are booking Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and the like. Perhaps if they booked the best performers in jazz and heritage music — which is what made Jazz Fest great in the first place — the costs wouldn’t rise so quickly. Then they could charge ticket prices that the people of New Orleans — who also helped make Jazz Fest great — could actually afford.

Maybe they should get real and just call it the New Orleans Pop Fest.
