I read your paper daily. My parents were devoted readers, and the paper has been ever present in my life and my family’s life since moving to Baton Rouge in 1953.

We were faithful readers of both the Morning Advocate and the State Times until it was eliminated.

I recognize that your paper picks up many news stories from national and international news organizations. Last week there was a story on the reduction in polio cases worldwide.

I am a Rotarian. As a Rotarian, in a city with many Rotarians, it is beyond me that Rotary International and the Paul Harris Foundation are not recognized as major forces in the targeted elimination of the polio virus and its effects around the globe.

Rotary launched the PolioPlus program in 1985 and in 1988 partnered with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Since that time, over $1.3 billion and untold volunteer man-hours have been devoted to eliminating polio around the globe. Recently, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation partnered in this effort. We are almost there.

Perhaps you would want to do a story on Rotary International, the Paul Harris Foundation and how individuals working together can indeed change the world for the better.
