With a new year comes new rhetoric from President Barack Obama and his attack on gun ownership.
He plans on using his executive action to force all gun dealers, whether they sell two guns or 200 guns a year, to have a license or face criminal prosecution by the FBI. Without the approval of Congress, he wants federal funds to be spent on research into new gun technology and an expanded system of background checks, a direct violation of Congress’ power of the purse as only it can appropriate funds.
Our president would rather reinforce a broken background system with taxpayer dollars rather than fixing it. He believes that there is a gun epidemic in America. Yet the facts show that national gun crimes have decreased over the past 10 years, as well as homicide rates.
I believe he does not care about the reality of gun crime in America. Rather, it is all about his legacy as president.
Sure, there’s the elimination of the world’s most-wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden. And yes, his health care vision for America is fulfilled with “Obamacare.” But this alone cannot satisfy his future presidential library. He needs more.
These delusional decisions are not surprising, as we have seen this expedited and time-driven behavior before, such as when he pulled out of Iraq quickly and Vice President Joe Biden praised his decision, calling it “one of the great achievements of this administration.” Well, we all know how that ended.
