I was very upset after reading your article regarding TOPS. It is very sad that your paper would imply that there is something wrong with TOPS because the majority benefiting from it is white students from families with a higher income. The standards for TOPS were set and those meeting the criteria benefit period end of story. What is wrong with this country that benefits should be awarded to only those who don’t put forth the effort to meet the guidelines. What? Do you want to change the criteria so TOPS can waste the money? The stats prove the program is successful by the percentage of the students getting degrees. I’m sure that is what the Taylor Foundation intended it to accomplish. Stop trying to diminish the success of the program by making this about race. Every student who works hard and meets the standards set is eligible.
