A respite from the current era of escalating police/community hostility arrives in the recent murder of Louisiana State trooper Steven Vincent. He was gunned down trying to assist a motorist whose vehicle was in a roadside ditch. Let the record reflect, the late trooper wasn’t trying to write a ticket nor effect an arrest. He was simply trying to help someone who appeared to be in a jam. The motto of the Louisiana State Police summed up why the late trooper went to render aid: “Courtesy, Loyalty, Service.” All he was doing was trying to help someone, not violate anyone’s rights. Blue lives matter, too.
