If “black lives matter” to New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the New Orleans City Council and the police chief, why don’t they pass some meaningful laws that would actually save some lives instead of wasting time talking about bringing our Civil War statues down (see Thomas Sowell’s column on the statue issue). We know from facts that 72 percent of black child births today are out-of-wedlock, as compared to 27 percent back in the 1960s before LBJ started welfare programs that broke up the black family. I haven’t seen any numbers regarding white family breakdown but would not be surprised to see a deterioration there, as well.

It’s easy to see how young boys growing up with no parental guidance, no responsibility, no positive parental messages as Dr. Ben Carson received from his divorced mother, join gangs, looking for fulfillment from friends in similar circumstances. I believe we know that most of the crime committed in New Orleans is from these kids, who are usually just teenagers.

My solution to this exploding epidemic is simple and threefold:

1. Start the “stop and frisk” policy instituted in New York City that saved thousands of lives. Murder rate is up 20 to 30 percent since Mayor Bill DeBlasio stopped it.

2. Anyone, black or white, caught with an illegal or unlicensed firearm is automatically sentenced to five years in federal prison, no ifs, ands or buts. Ten years if you’re caught using an illegal firearm in committing a crime.

3. This is probably the toughest one to pass, but pass some laws holding the parents responsible for the acts of their teenage children. Such laws may make some men (probably boys) “keep it in their pants” if they knew they were going to be held responsible for their irresponsibilities.

I see no reason why such laws couldn’t be passed on a local level. Of course, we also have to change the welfare laws that ENCOURAGE single-parent childbirth. This would have to be done on a national level and would probably bring great opposition from the race-baiters, Barack Obama, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and others, who continue to work against the black community. It appears these types want to keep the blacks and poor down, making them more dependent and imprisoned by the government, in hopes they continue to re-elect them for all the free stuff.

God bless America!
