New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu was accused of playing the race card in a recent letter to the editor. I often hear about “black people” playing the race card. Or leaders who include them playing the “race card.” I’m 57 years old and have never seen or owned one. My wife of 35 years hasn’t either. I’ve asked relatives, neighbors, friends, church members and even strangers do they have “this card.”

I never saw it in grade school, college or even the seminary.

Did I miss out on something?

Would this “race card” have gotten me and my wife a better mortgage and loans on cars, discounts on our three children’s college education and the two weddings of our two daughters?

Would this “race card” mean I get a “pass” on groceries, gasoline, insurance costs? If I show this card, does that mean that I will be treated in a different way?

If the “race card” gives me some benefit, please tell me where I can get mine.
