President Barack Obama reiterated that his “strategy” against the Islamic State was working but needed more time and intensification. Really? Does the Islamic State seem to be crawling into a hole or expanding its operations?

Obama sounds like George W. Bush after Hurricane Katrina, announcing all was well in New Orleans while live TV showed thousands in desperation at the Convention Center.

Self-delusion can be a powerful mental process. Strategic bombing did not make Germany, Japan or North Korea give up. It will not happen with the Islamic State.

In conjunction with France, England, other NATO countries and even, perhaps, Russia, we need ground troops to destroy the Islamic State caliphate.

Will this stop all terrorism? Of course not, but it will be a significant setback to a terrorist group that seems to be getting stronger and bolder daily.
