I am deeply concerned about the future of our country. Recently, U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake gave a speech in the Senate that expressed so eloquently what is in my heart. The situation in this country is like the fable of the king's subjects being afraid to say that he has no clothes. In this case, tragically, it's not a fable. Rather, it is, as Flake said, a matter of our country being led by a man who is dangerously unfit to be president and is destroying our democratic norms. He is an embarrassment — and doing irreparable damage to what we stand for as a country.
Flake has been joined by two other men of wisdom and courage: his colleagues, U.S. Sens. Bob Corker and John McCain. These gentleman are conservative Republicans, not liberal Democrats. This is not about politics. This is about the future of our country. All three of these men are intelligent, principled and cherish the values of truth, honor and our democratic institutions.
All of us must join Flake, McCain and Corker and demand that this president honor truth, civility and the democratic process and, if he can't or won't, demand that he be impeached. We cannot afford to stand silent.
