It’s refreshing to hear the standing-room-only areas at Jazz Fest are being expanded. However, without enforcement of the rules, problems will persist.

Consistently, these new spaces have been encroached on since they were introduced a few years back. Senior members of the security team must be ready to deploy the moment someone sets up “camp,” regardless of whether it is early in the day or during a crowded performance.

Leaving the responsibility to young, mostly minimum-wage employees is asking too much given the tensions that erupt between the sitters and the dancers.
