In Sunday’s edition of your paper on Page 17A, there is an article in which former Gov. Edwin Edwards is explaining how he met his most recent wife.

He is quoted thus: “I’m 83 years old, in prison and broke.”

The same edition reports on Page 1B that this man is receiving a $5,088 pension check from the Louisiana State Employees Retirement System and received it while he was in prison.

Many Louisiana residents would like to be “broke” as EWE says he is. A retirement benefit of more than $60,000 a year is more than most workers in this state earn and surely more than most retirees receive.

Is he hoping someone will host a fundraiser for him? I am disgusted by all the media attention he’s receiving.
