The Transportation Enhancements program, which is less than 2 percent of the federal transportation program, provides federal funding to construct sidewalks, bike lanes, bike paths, trails and other infrastructure that makes it safe for bicyclists and pedestrians to get around.
On Wednesday, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will start debating to sustain funding for projects that help alleviate traffic congestion, improve safety, get people active and create jobs.
One of the jobs affected is that of the landscape architect. Landscape architects design for a safe, healthy and more sustainable community. Some examples of what landscape architects can design for are sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic islands, curb extensions and permeable paving.
With this being said, please join landscape architects in the effort to urge our senators to invest in better and safer conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians.
