While talking to a state maintenance worker recently, I found that he has not had a yearly raise in four years.

These raises used to come on employees’ employment anniversary — before Gov.Bobby Jindal stopped giving them.

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development maintenance workers are the people who keep state roads passable — when they are given money to buy material, These are the people who are mandated to work in all weather conditions, included hurricanes and freezing rain and snow.

All other branches of the state stay home in these conditions , but not DOTD maintenance workers. They are the people required to work even when unappreciative people curse them for holding up traffic.
