Recently I got a recorded phone call on my home landline with the following message:

“Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Dennis Gray, and I’m calling regarding an enforcement action executed by the U.S. Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense.”

The caller then provides a number with a 213 area code (Los Angeles) to call back. The number shows up as “unknown name” on the caller ID with the same 213 phone number.

This is a phone scam trying to get your personal information and/or money. Do not call them back. They are likely robo-calling everybody in East Baton Rouge Parish.

More information on the scam may be found at https://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Repeats-Warning-about-Phone-Scams

From this site we read, “Based on the 90,000 complaints that TIGTA has received through its telephone hotline, to date, TIGTA has identified approximately 1,100 victims who have lost an estimated $5 million from these scams.”

Don’t you be a victim.
