BP’s fine is very well-deserved after the destruction they have caused to wetlands in the Gulf, as well as actions being described as “gross negligence.”

Their poor incident preparation resulted in millions of gallons of oil being dumped into the Gulf, as well as the death of workers.

These two events alone are worth more than simply being called “gross negligence.” The oil rig was their property, and therefore, the company’s responsibility, which means BP is fully responsible for the damage that the Horizon oil rig’s explosion has inflicted to the ecosystem and the people whose lives were affected by the incident.
