This letter is in response to Heather Betz’s recent letter, “Miss Manners needs a lesson in etiquette,” in which Betz states that in her opinion, The Advocate should discontinue printing the Miss Manners etiquette column. The reason Betz gives is that Miss Manners “is snappish” in too many of her responses.

I disagree. I think that Miss Manners does an excellent job of being on target, reasonable and forthright in her responses. I think that columns on etiquette do a good job of reminding us all how to be polite and civil. I applaud Miss Manners for pointing out when the complainer also needs correction. I hope The Advocate will continue to carry the column.
