The swirling scandal around the Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Rice poses a question for the NFL: Should the commissioner, Roger Goodell, be fired? The only answer possible is YES. Goodell initially suspended Rice for two games. Amphetamine and marijuana use routinely get a suspension for four games.

The blow that Rice landed on his then-fiancée could have very easily been fatal. The glitz and monster money associated with being a star in the NFL often leads to a feeling that players are above the law. They aren’t, and if Rice had landed a fatal blow, he would have been charged with murder. Unfortunately, for society and the NFL, Rice’s fiancée is now his wife and refuses to press charges.

A new beginning in the NFL demands a new leader. Goodell should go. Now!
