In response to “State to overhaul pre-K,” The Advocate Oct 2:

East Baton Rouge Parish Head Start is built on the belief that by working together, the community (children and parents), teachers and educators all come closer to the shared goal of helping our children broaden their horizons. Together as a whole we can help them make sense of the world they live in and become informed and involved citizens who can better determine the course of their lives.

Leadership is not so much about techniques and methods as it is about opening the heart.

Leadership is about inspiration of oneself and of others. Great leadership is about human experiences, not processes. Leadership is not a formula or a program, it is human activity that comes from the heart and considers the heart of others. It is an attitude, not a routine.

One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency. If there is one thing an educator can do to connect with students at a human — or better still a spiritual level — it is to become engaged with them fully, to share experiences and emotions and to set aside the processes of leadership we have learned by rote.
