As a proud member of the Louisiana bar who regularly practices in federal court, and as a former president of the Federal Bar Association, I am writing this letter in response to James Gill’s op-ed on Wendy Vitter. I have known Wendy Vitter for over 30 years.
She is exceedingly smart, independent, earnest and honorable. She is professional, effective and fair-minded. She has a wide range of experience that will serve her very well on the bench, including working in a civil litigation firm on primarily federal matters and as general counsel for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, handling a broad array of federal and other legal issues. James Gill’s critique is ill-conceived and off-base. Unfortunately, however, too many professional women, like Wendy Vitter, are unfairly targeted and for no good reason. U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy was wise to recommend Wendy Vitter and the White House has made an exceptional choice by nominating her.
