I would like to thank columnist Thomas Sowell for contributing and The Advocate for including him in the commentary section.

Sowell’s article regarding socialism was a very comprehensive and objective read. He explained very well why this system has failed the world over and that most of the young have missed all that because of our dumb-downed education system.

As a result, they are far more likely to present the inspiring rhetoric of socialism than to present its dismal track record. His description of socialism is one of the best I’ve ever read. It enables those who do not really understand the structure and scope of socialism to better understand the terrible impact it renders on society and nations.

Sowell writes, “Worst of all, government giveaways polarize society into segments, each trying to get what it wants at somebody else’s expense, creating mutual bitterness that can tear a society apart.”

Unfortunately, many of our college students who fall into this category are following Bernie Sanders because he is promoting free tuition, along with a myriad of other things. The students don’t seem to consider that this will impact hard-working Americans. The big picture totally escapes them. The entitlement mentality is toxic, and the socialists continue to embrace and promote it, despite continued, dismal failure.

I am grateful to Sowell for shining light on this threat to America and for explaining that it should be recognized and totally blocked at all possible entrances.
