Regarding the current flap over Confederate monuments: In June, 2013, I took my grandson on a tour of the Gettysburg battlefield, and afterward, we ate lunch at The Blue & Grey Tavern in town. Union Burgers (named after Union officers) are served with a paper American flag stuck in the bun. My Robert E. Lee Burger came with a paper Confederate battle flag. When I mentioned to the server that doing so in New Orleans would be greeted with overt hostility, she was surprised. She said, “We honor both sides here; it’s American history.”

I guess those people are a little more mature than those of in us New Orleans.
