I think sometimes that having the letters Ph.D. after your name is just that, letters.

It is supposed to signify intelligence in a person. Michael Polito has a Ph.D., so he must have some intelligence. However, he does not read very well.

I think he missed my point in his May 27 letter responding to my May 20 letter, ?Veteran against flag-burning protest.?

When our country was at war ? World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam? if our forces were defeated in battle and our soldiers captured or killed along with the flag of our country, the enemy would burn the flag as a sign ofdisrespect and contempt.

When LSU student Benjamin Haas wanted to burn our nation?s flag as a victorious enemy would do, I took affront to it.

The courts of our land have taken it upon themselves to expand what our Founding Fathers meant when they wrote the ?right to free speech? to include various acts which contain no speech.

I am fine with this. I do not want to curb anybody’s right to free speech and do not believe that free speech can only be expounded verbally.

I did say that I think burning the flag is wrong and other avenues could be used to reach the same goal.

Polito makes a statement for free speech then tries to silence those who disagree with him.
