U.S. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., waxed prophetical as reported in The Advocate on Tuesday (“Vitter predicts dire effects after credit rating drop”).

This inspired me to look up his record on prior debt ceiling votes. During the Bush administration he voted FOR raising the debt ceiling in 2006.

In another blog, I learned that the four major Republicans opposing the raising of the debt ceiling last week had voted 19 times to raise it during the Bush administration.

Now, before pointing any fingers, Democrats, note this. In 2006, in which Vitter voted to raise the debt ceiling, I learned that all congressional Democrats voted AGAINST. It seems in politics hypocrisy knows no party.

I am utterly disgusted with the appalling attitudes of our leaders in Washington. It seems their interest in obstructing the work of the opposition party, in order to gain power, far supersedes their desire to care for their constituency.

Ironically, for once, I must agree with Vitter in his prediction of dire consequences for our country. Yet I wonder whether his statement was mere political posturing or if he really understands the peril our country faces if honor and reason cannot be restored to our Congress soon.
