I am concerned about our Southern forests being devastated to provide wood pellets to be burned for fuel in Europe. Our trees store carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which we need to breathe. We need our trees to keep our air as clean as possible. Why should we clear cut our hardwood forests to export this natural resource to Europe, which has devastated its own forests?

There are two huge white domes at the Baton Rouge Port where wood pellets from all over the Southeast will be housed before being shipped to Europe. We must insist that the Drax energy group from London be accountable and stop claiming that wood pellets are a feasible alternative to coal. I care about this issue because I care about my planet and the life on it. Burning the pellets releases carbon into the air and is not carbon neutral. Solar and wind are better alternatives.
