We join in the legal community’s congratulations for John W. deGravelles, newly confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a federal judge in Baton Rouge.
Judge deGravelles will sit for the Middle District court, filling a seat made available when U.S. District Judge James Brady took senior status.
The latter means that Brady will still hear cases, although he is eligible for a smaller load than the three judges on the Middle District bench. U.S. District Judge John M. Parker, who died recently, demonstrated over many years of service that the work ethic of judges on senior status is considerable.
DeGravelles was unanimously confirmed by the Senate after his nomination by President Barack Obama. An LSU graduate and prominent lawyer in private practice, we wish him well in his tough new assignment.
