One of the great institutions in New Orleans and in Louisiana is Tulane University. Building its capacity for the future is a mission we wholeheartedly endorse, as the university embarks on the public phase of its long-term capital campaign.

Over the last several years, more than 54,000 donors have contributed more than 60 percent of a $1.3 billion fundraising goal. Some of the money goes to campus structures, some already spent, but much of it will boost the campus’ endowment for continuing support for Tulane’s mission.

Of particular note: $100 million from the Weatherhead Foundation to fund scholarships and support faculty positions, including endowing the first Presidential Chair.

Louisiana’s universities, public and private, are increasingly dependent on donations to achieve their goals of academic excellence and economic progress. We applaud this start and encourage folks to invest in the future at Tulane.
