Best wishes to a man whose new job probably should be described as the toughest act to follow in New Orleans.

C. Reynold Verret will be formally invested Friday as president of Xavier University, a prominent local role but also an important national role as president of the only historically black Roman Catholic University.

He is a former New Orleanian, having previously taught chemistry at Tulane University a couple of decades ago and since rising through academic ranks in universities around the country.

Succeeding the revered Norman Francis is not going to be an easy task, but we know Verret will have the cordial support of the city and Louisiana as he seeks to build on Francis’ long tenure and valued legacy.
