The first deadline facing voters, especially people who would like to be voters, is the deadline to register in time for the big Nov. 4 election.
That deadline is Oct. 6, and already about 28,000 new voters have signed up at registrars’ offices around the state. Another 52,000 voters have updated their records, presumably having moved since the last big election, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
While it is a positive thing that more citizens are signing up as voters, that last number is also important: Many people move residences and don’t think about voter registration until it is too late.
We encourage voters who are in the later category to update their records so that there are fewer election-day problems on Nov. 4.
