Few places in Baton Rouge are more prized by residents than the LSU and City Park lakes. We welcome the investment in a new master plan to revitalize them.

The opinion of a nearby resident is on the money for the multimillion-dollar vision for the area. Anita Harper told The Advocate that “something needs to be done with these lakes. They can’t be left the way they are.”

That’s the ecological reality for the shallow lakes. Extensive, and expensive, dredging and reworking of the lakes system is necessary. The search for funding now begins, but the master plan investment — underwritten by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation — is an essential first step.
