The drought for professional basketball in Louisiana is over. The New Orleans Pelicans go to the playoffs starting Saturday against the Golden Gate Warriors. But our team got to that challenge in fine form: They defeated the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs 108-103 in a soldout and raucous Smoothie King Center on Wednesday.
The No. 8 seed in the playoffs might be a challenge, but it is a considerable tribute to the players and coaches that the Pelicans are in the hunt at all after several rebuilding years. With Anthony Davis and other young stars, the future of the Pelicans seems very bright. We add our congratulations and know that basketball fans across the state will be cheering them on.
