AT A GLANCE

Perhaps Ed Orgeron and Co.'s biggest splash of the recruiting cycle, Phillips flipped from Oklahoma to LSU a week before signing day. LSU’s need for linebackers in this recruiting cycle has been well-chronicled, but snatching the nation’s best inside linebacker from the Sooners still made waves. With prototypical size for a middle linebacker, he diagnoses plays well and hits hard.

HONORS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Registering four tackles, including one for loss, Phillips participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. … Combining his junior and senior seasons, he had 245 tackles, four interceptions, five tackles for loss and 2½ sacks. … Claimed Class 3A Tennessee Titans Mr. Football lineman award.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
