Southern’s 47-42 loss to Prairie View last Saturday knocked it down a few spots in both HBCU polls Monday.

The Jaguars, 3-3 and 3-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, fell to No. 7 from No. 4 in the coaches poll and to No. 9 from No. 5 in the media poll.

Defending SWAC champion Alcorn State fell from the top spot in both polls after its 35-34 overtime loss against Grambling.

North Carolina A&T, which defeated Bethune-Cookman 24-14, assumed the No. 1 spot in both polls.

The Aggies received 18 of 19 first-place votes in returning to the top of the coaches poll for the first time since the Sept. 7 rankings.

Alcorn State dropped to No. 3 in the coaches and Grambling passed the Braves to move into the second spot after being fifth a week ago.

Prairie View moved up three spots to No. 5.

In the media poll, Grambling received three first-place votes and was ranked No. 2, 11 points behind N.C. A&T, which received the other 15 first-place votes. Tuskegee moved up one spot to No. 5 and No. 7 Prairie View returned to the rankings for the first time since week 3.

The BOXTOROW HBCU FCS coaches and media polls are administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW. The coaches poll is voted on by the HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
