The Southern football team is heading back to Houston.

Thanks to Alcorn State’s 50-35 victory Thursday night against Prairie View, Southern clinched the SWAC West Division title and earned a spot in the league championship game Dec. 7 at Houston’s Reliant Stadium.

It’ll be the Jaguars’ first appearance in the title game since 2004 (a 40-35 loss to Alabama State), and they’ll be seeking their first crown since ’03.

Southern is 5-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play in coach Dawson Odums’ first full season. The Jaguars visit Alabama State (6-3, 6-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
