Saquon Barkley

Penn State junior RB

His case: Barkley firmly established himself as the man to beat with 161 yards (108 rushing, 53 receiving) and three touchdowns against Michigan. The acid test, however, comes this Saturday at Ohio State. A poor performance makes this an open race again.

This week: Saturday at Ohio State (2:30 p.m., Fox)

Bryce Love

Stanford junior RB

His case: Love sat out Thursday's game at Oregon State with an ankle injury. He still leads the nation with 198.1 yards per game rushing, but Love's hopes will take a big hit if Barkley makes a big splash against Ohio State.

Next game: Nov. 4 at Washington State (TBD)

Baker Mayfield

Oklahoma senior QB

His case: Had 479 yards (410 passing, 69 rushing) and four TDs last week in a 42-35 shootout win over Kansas State. With his glittering stat line (2,347 yards passing, 19 TDs, 2 interceptions), Mayfield has to be asking, “Don’t quarterbacks usually win the Heisman?”

This week: Saturday vs. Texas Tech (7 p.m., ABC)

On the radar: Notre Dame RB Josh Adams, Jr.; Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett, Sr.; Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, So.; Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, Jr.
