West Feliciana defensive lineman Brent Williams had five scholarship offers. Williams said he did not need to break his selections down into a group of finalists.

It was simple for the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Williams. He committed to Army on Tuesday and plans to visit the West Point, New York, campus next week.

“I just sort of knew all along what I wanted to do,” Williams said. “Army started recruiting me last spring and stayed with me through the whole season. I think it is the best decision for me and for my future.”

Williams earned All-District 6-3A honors and was selected to The Advocate’s All-Metro team for Classes 3A to 1A after helping the Saints win the District 6-3A title and advance to the Class 3A semifinals for the third straight season.

He is the third WFHS player to commit to a college this week. Linebacker Hunter Smith (Louisiana-Monroe) and fullback/defensive lineman Ronald Sims committed to Northwestern State over the weekend. Williams said he plans to major in chemical engineering.

Plaquemine's Harris to sign on ESPNU

ESPNU plans to broadcast the signing of Plaquemine safety Todd Harris live next Wednesday from the school’s gym.

PHS coach Paul Distefano said the signing ceremony will start at 8:30 a.m. and will include several other players. Distefano said ESPNU plans to go live with Harris signing at about 9:10 a.m. next Wednesday.

Harris is one of Louisiana’s top uncommitted prospects. Alabama, LSU and TCU lead his list of suitors.
