SULPHUR — A total of five swimmers qualified first in two individual events and one individual meet record was set on the first-day of preliminary heats at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Swim meet.

Calvary Baptist’s Sarah Holt, The Dunham School's Miles Jantzi and Ascension Episcopal’s Jillian Barczyk topped the list of qualifiers in the Division IV preliminaries that opened the four-day LHSAA meet Wednesday morning at the SPAR Aquatic Center.

The E.D. White duo of Jacques Rathle and Grant DeGravelle and the Parkview Baptist combo of Rylee Moore and Jolee Liles were the top performers in the Division III heats completed Wednesday night.

Holt set a Division IV record while qualifying first in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.29 seconds. She also had the top time of 2 minutes, 13.68 seconds in 200 individual medley. Jantzi led the list of Division IV boys qualifiers with the top qualifying times in the 50 freestyle in 22.18 seconds and 100 freestyle in 48.33.

Barczyk, the Division IV record holder in the 200 and 500 freestyles, qualified first in the 200 in 1:55.86 and will compete in both events in the finals, which begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Division III final start at 3 p.m.

Connor Page led the Newman boys with a top qualifying time in the 100 backstroke and the No. 2 in the 100 butterfly also in Division IV.

Rathle had the top times of 1:58.42 in the boys 200 IM and 101.02 in the 100 breaststroke for E.D. White in Division III. Teammate DeGravelle had the best 50 freestyle time of 22.40. DeGravelle and St. Louis Catholic’s Caleb Wyninger dueled in the 100 freestyle. DeGravelle posted the top mark of 49.51, but both are less than a second from the Division III record going into the final.

Moore was the only girl to record two top times. She qualified first in the 100 butterfly in 57.98 and 100 backstroke in 55.96. Liles is the Division III record holder in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle and will compete in both Thursday. She had the top 200 IM time of 2:07.84.
