It took a little time for second-seeded University High to knock off the rust from not having played  in a week. But soon enough, the Cubs got on a roll.

Jack Shelby and Connor Kirkpatrick each scored two goals to lead the way as U-High notched a 6-3 victory over Hannan in a Division III regional-round soccer playoff game Thursday night at UHS' Gill Stadium.

“I thought we attacked well,” U-High coach Chris Mitchell said. “There were some times when we broke our form on defense and part of that has to do with having that first-round bye. But overall, I am pleased. We know we play (seventh-seeded) Menard at home next and that is a good thing.”

Jackson Word and Hayden Franklin also scored goals for U-High (13-3-6).
