Denham Springs High School sophomore-to-be Cade Doughty is exactly where he wanted to be — on the USA Baseball 15-and-under squad announced Thursday night in Cary, North Carolina.
“I just talked to him, and he’s pumped,” Denham Springs coach Mark Carroll said. “I’ve coached a lot of players who have gone to college and done a lot of things. But this — making a USA team — it’s a first. He’s excited about this and pumped about next spring, too. This is huge for our program. It brings positive attention to our program.”
Earning the Team USA roster spot was only part of the big news for Doughty this week. He committed to LSU on Monday night.
Doughty earned his 15-and-under roster spot with his play during a tournament that featured 40 players from across the nation. He played first base, second base, third base, catcher and even took a turn at pitching during the event, which ended Thursday.
As a freshman, Doughty played in the outfield and batted .386 with 30 runs, seven doubles and 18 RBIs. He earned All-District 4-5A, All-Livingston Parish and All-Metro honors.
