Ascension Catholic running back Jamar Barber was injured in an auto accident on his way to school Wednesday morning, according to a source close to the situation.
Barber was one of three people in a vehicle that went off a road and struck a fire hydrant. All were transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Word of the accident quickly surfaced on social media, including Twitter and Facebook.
“Thank God they’re alive,” the source said. “My understanding is it could have been a lot worse.”
Barber has been a driving force behind the Bulldogs berth in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic. Sixth-seeded ACHS (11-2) plays No. 4 Lafayette Christian (12-1) in the Division IV title at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. It is ACHS’ first title-game berth since winning the Class 1A title in 1992.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that another Ascension Catholic player, Jai Williams, was also involved in the crash.
