Susan Gremillion resigned after two seasons as head football coach at Louisiana School for the Deaf, citing the desire to spend more time with her family.

Gremillion coached the War Eagles to the Deaf National Championship in eight-man football last fall. LSD finished 8-0, winning its first national title since 2005. Gremillion made headlines two years ago when she became Louisiana’s first female head football coach in the modern era. She had a 14-5 record in two seasons.

Gremillion, the aunt of Catholic-PC softball coach Lauren Doucet, said she is the godmother to one of Doucet’s two young daughters.

“I simply want to be able to see my great nephew and three great nieces more,” Gremillion said. “I want to be at family functions and gatherings. There may be some other things I’ll do that won’t have the same time demand.”

Galloway’s jersey retired

Christian Life Academy retired the No. 11 jersey of former Crusaders star Langston Galloway during its spring sports banquet held Tuesday night. It was the school’s final sports function before its name changes to The Church Academy-Baton Rouge in the fall.

“I’m extremely honored,” Galloway said. “Not many guys my age get their jersey retired. I was surprised when they called me about two weeks ago to tell me their plans. I knew about the name change and they said they wanted to make retiring my jersey something they did before the change.”

The 25-year-old Galloway started last season with the New Orleans Pelicans and finished it with the Sacramento Kings after a trade involving DeMarcus Cousins.
