Scotlandville High pitcher Destin Dotson knows something about pitches. The senior left-hander said Tulane did not have to put anything extra on its pitch to him.

Dotson committed to the Green Wave on Wednesday, something he had planned for more than a week.

“What Tulane offers academically is so good,” Dotson said. “They’re like the Harvard of the South. And the baseball program — the coaches and players — I like too. It is a good fit for me."

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Dotson recently returned from Major League Baseball’s “Dream Series,” an Arizona-based camp/workshop held in conjunction with Martin Luther King Day festivities. As a junior, Dotson was 5-3 and helped the Hornets to their first Class 5A playoff berth. Dotson, an honor student in Scotlandville’s engineering program, has scholarship offers from about 20 schools.
