COLUMBIA, Mo. — Simone Heyward’s three-run double with the bases loaded lifted LSU past Missouri 3-1 Sunday in Walton Stadium as the LSU softball team clinched the program’s third trip to the Women’s College World Series.
Rachele Fico got the win for LSU in the second game.
Missouri beat LSU 5-1 in 12 innings in the first game Sunday, forcing a third game. LSU won the series opener 6-1 Saturday night.
The WCWS begins Thursday in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Tigers (39-23) will play top-seeded California, the winner of the Berkeley super regional, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
In the first game, LSU’s Brittany Mack struck out 17 but lost as Missouri (47-14) scored three runs in the top of the 12th.
