LSU running back Alfred Blue will go through Senior Day ceremonies Friday and might forgo his fifth year next season for the NFL draft, he said.

Blue, a Boutte native, and fullback Connor Neighbors were both granted fifth years of eligibility by the NCAA earlier this month. Neighbors said Monday that he plans to return for his fifth year next season. He will not go through the Senior Day ceremonies Friday before the game against Arkansas.

Blue said Monday night that he’s “very undecided” on returning to the team next season.

Blue has served as a backup to starter Jeremy Hill this season. He’s rushed for 1,210 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in his career.

Blue entered this season as the No. 2 running back but is fourth in carries (62) and yards (311) among LSU’s four tailbacks. He started the season opener against TCU, while Hill was suspended, running for 89 yards.

In six games this season, Blue has received four or fewer carries.

Blue suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third week of last season. Blue is rated the 13th best running back in the draft by He’s projected as a seventh-round pick or to go undrafted.

LSU’s backfield next season is unsettled. Hill is a sophomore but is eligible for the draft. Kenny Hilliard and Terrence Magee are juniors. LSU has one running back commitment, Sione Palelei, for the 2014 class and is chasing what most sites rate as the top running back in the nation, St. Augustine’s Leonard Fournette.

Beckham has ‘contusion’

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may not practice fully this week because of a “contusion” on his back, LSU coach Les Miles said Monday.

Beckham, LSU’s leading receiver with 1,101 yards, reinjured his lower back during a second-half incompletion in the end zone in the win over Texas A&M. Beckham said the back was swollen after the game Saturday.

Miles expects to hold Beckham out of some practices during this short week. The receiver said he did not expect to practice Monday.

“I think there’s a quality bruise back there,” Miles said. “And I think probably going to give him some time (off). Though he’s the kind of guy that loves to get out and practice. We’ll have to hold him back some.”

Said a smiling Beckham about Miles’ “quality” bruise line, “Never had a bruise described as quality.”
